What's for dinner Thursday?

Posted August 15, 2013

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas for what to make with all the great deals you have bought on sale recently.

What's on your menu tonight?

Steak gorditas, refried beans. Baked pineapples with brown sugar for dessert. I realized how much pineapple I have.

We are making Brasilian tonight with some leftover pork loin from earlier in the week, rice, black beans, lettuce and tomato.

With the chill in the air, I am thinking some kind of soup for dinner tonight. Not sure yet. Maybe something with spinach and chicken sausage.

The toast was delicious with lots of butter and cinnamon sugar! ;)

I'm making up for it tonight with chicken and dumplings -- biscuit style, although if I can get it together enough to make gnocchi, it would be even better with those. I made the chicken yesterday, so it should be fairly easy tonight.

I'm also very proud of myself that I found a way to use/disguise the chicken thighs buried in the freezer from some whole HT sale chickens I broke down before freezing them.

My grocery spending this month is $93, so we are seeing a bit of space in the freezer for new deals this fall.

I thought she meant she woke up to breakfast in bed and I was seriously jealous!
We're having grilled Smithfield pork tenderloin, egg noodles and balsamic and mushroom green beans. Still going strong on my meal planning and I am LOVING it!

You must still be thinking about the strawberries you woke up with, wildfrenchrose. :-)

My brain is obviously faster than my fingers today--strawberry JAM.

jdouglas, I have on more than one occasion made a meal out of Great Harvest Bakery's white bread, unsalted butter, and strawberry. I figure it has everything you need except something green...

jdouglas - how was your toast last night?? I would have more "meals" like that if I didn't have kids I think. I felt like I was in the kitchen 1/2 the day yesterday making and cleaning up the beef stroganoff. When I was in college, I ate a tortilla, cheese and salsa 1/2 the time for dinner. Now that was an easy meal.

Since this appears to be my week of daily meal planning (vs planning ahead for the whole week), tonight we will be having grilled turkey, turkey bacon and cheese sandwiches with tomato soup (free Imagine organic tomato soup from Super Doubles yesterday and Hillshire Farm turkey from LF 25% sale with .55/1 coupon on package last week). And since we are still working on the watermelon we bought a couple days ago - we'll be eating more watermelon with dinner.
