It looks like tonight we will be having the stuffed baked tomatoes that I didn't get to last night, along with a strip steak on the grill (HT sale) and rice. Last night ended up being baked chicken drumsticks and leftover mashed potatoes at around 10 pm. We're still working on the cake. :)

RFB, I can't give you measurements, but when I make BBQ sauce, I use ketchup, low sodium tamari, fresh sautéed (or dried) garlic and onion, fresh ginger, cider vinegar, granulated sugar to taste, and sometimes sesame oil. Sometimes I add it to cooked chicken, steamed broccoli, and sliced water chestnuts and serve it over rice.

raesmom1612 - yikes for the squirrel. Glad your power is back on, though.

We got back a little while ago from a quick weekend trip to the NC mountains. It was so beautiful!! I picked up a packet of Tuscan herb mix from a tea and spice store in Blowing Rock yesterday. I can't wait to try it on chicken breasts this week. It smells amazing.

Tonight we finally had the low fat beef hot dogs with green beans on the side.

RFB - that is too bad on the recipe but thanks for the warning.

Oh no RFB I'm sorry you didn't like the recipe!! I haven't pulled it up yet but how much brown sugar did it call for?? I use less than a quarter of a cup when I make mine. I also let the chicken cook in the Italian dressing and onions for about 2 hours before I add the bbq sauce and brown sugar. I hope you give it another shot, maybe find a recipe that is not balanced with similar ingredients.

Tonight is leftovers. Had a brief power outage this morning thanks to a squirrel who has since passed away. So Rae and I went to church and are just gettin home. Too tired and hot to cook today :)

I was excited to see that FL now has a big selection of Nature's Place natural (antibiotic-free) beef, pork and even nitrate-free bacon! So, we got a few steaks on markdown, plus we'll have a baked potato and salad on the side.

Oh, and ignore that previous chicken recipe link. Well... you might enjoy it, but I did not like it at all! First time in a long time that I truly disliked a recipe. Way too sweet and unbalanced. I honestly think it would have been better just with plain old BBQ sauce :-)

Jdouglas13 - you gave me my "learn something new " item for today !
The cake sounds delicious & interesting !
It is nice to find something every now and then to remind us that sometimes you only need a little for great results .
The baked tomatoes sound heavenly to me - I eat tomatoes everyday if possible .

  • jdouglas13 Aug 15, 2015

Tonight is baked chicken legs, baked tomatoes stuffed with spinach, and rice.

Dessert is an old Depression or WWII-era (think food rationing) chocolate raisin spice cake that calls for no eggs, not much sugar or chocolate, and only a stick of butter, topped with 10X style "buttercream" frosting. It's an old family recipe that I thought was spelled border cake because my Mom's family was from Canada, but recently realized that it's probably boarder cake for the days when people ran boarding houses.

And that's my story for the day :)

ASCHERE -I will email you in a few minutes ! I HOPE you are OK !
Don't you just LOVE to cook once and reheat many times ??
I even throw a frozen meal in DH's bag every once in a while for him to reheat at work ! He can not leave very often to pickup anything nor does he like the food available at his workplace so this is cheaper, healthier and he eats it with little fuss ( or none I have to listen to) .LOL
