Posted September 20, 2014

Strawberries

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas.

Raesmom- that sounds like a blast!!!

Today we got Chipotle for lunch, which is typically our main meal on Sundays :-)

And yes, what amazing weather today, Faye!

With you on the grilling tonight Faye. Burgers for the family and portabella for me. Got a HUGE spaghetti squash for less than $2 the other day and so I'm going to do something with that. Will probably do fries in the oven for the burger people.

ThomasG - I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. Thanks for your good thoughts. DW and I are hanging in! :) Your menu sounded so delicious, I'm inspired to copy some of it one night this week.

Last night's Caesar salad with chicken morphed into a green salad with chicken, tomatoes, stuffed green olives, and gorgonzola from TJ. The dressing was one of my most bizarre concoctions yet as it was a taste and this, taste and add that, but somehow it worked.

I have a HT London broil and some Italian sausage in the fridge, so one of them will be involved with dinner tonight and the other will go into the freezer. I'm leaning towards BBQ beef in the slow cooker or stuffed shells with sausage in the sauce. Perfect meals for the 90 degree weather we're supposed to have today! :p

raesmom1612 - what a wonderful birthday for your hubby! Sounds like a great day for all of you. Enjoy the festival today. I think we are going over to the Clayton Harvest Festival this afternoon. Great weather for festivals!

Dinner yesterday was at Hooters in honor of the birthday boy :) The girls at Hooters were awesome, they pulled out a bunch of toys and played games with Rae for about 20 minutes while DH and I had a great meal and some much needed one on one time (of course i left positive feedback on Hooters website about the girls). The whole day over all was amazing!! Turns out that the central Carolina fair was going on right across the street from his Lambo drive, so after he did his Lamborghini drive, we went to Hooters down the road, then to the mall right also down the road, then came back to the fair. We made it home a little late so no beach today, gonna head downtown for the Hispanic heritage festival they have going on instead.

Tonight I'm thinking Spanish rice and beans with chicken in the oven for dinner, and leftover cheesecake for dessert :)

Tonight we are grilling burgers and turkey hot dogs. Sides of pasta salad, fruit salad and leftover ice cream cake from last week's birthday for dessert. :-)

THOMASG- good tip on the dehydrator! And I agree on local honey... and especially bee pollen (they have local at Earth Fare in the fridge section). I add it on top of smoothies and it adds a nice crunch. I've read it's the "perfect" food... high in protein too :-)

    Thank You JDOUGLAS13
I hope you are feeling better ! How is your DW?
I will remember your grading suggestion and check out Whole Foods when I am near there .
My source for maple syrup from New England has passed away ( RIP dear friend ) so I am shopping around .

I find the real stuff does seem to take less per serving and taste better too -one of my favorites is :
jellies/jams made with real sugar not high fructose corn syrup - homemade is best but you can find some descent ones now In the stores .

Cooking pork chops on the grill, DW has potato salad, mix of veggies ( I saw corn, tomatoes and butter beans so I guess sucatash ) and sourdough bread .
I think dessert is apple pie ( I smell apple something and I was asked to pickup vanilla ice cream today ).
