thanks for the farm info !
That is one of the first places my mother wanted to go when she came to visit us ! lol
We having been going to that farm and the stands for over 20 years .
I think the have at least one stand in Raleigh for those that do not want to drive that far.
I do not know if they are at the Raleigh Farmer's Market but they are at the Durham one .

The produce stand I was at yesterday is in Oxford ( north on I 85) - I know the farm so I know any of the stands are good .They have numerous stands all over the area, booth at various Farmer's Markets.
The farm is Lyon Farm in Creedmoor - just north of Falls Lake off Hwy 50 .
It is a little bit of a drive from Raleigh but well worth it ( it is a pretty drive too up Hwy 50 )
The website ( http://www.lyonfarms.com/index.html ) has some good info but some info has not been updated for the season .
You can call the contact number - they are super nice and helpful.
the Facebook page is more current: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lyon-Farms/310994802298291 The strawberries are superb this year - good size, juicy ( not watery ) and just sweet enough . The asparagus was so good - not sure I can buy any at the grocery store now.

Faye- that sounds so delicious and healthy!

Jdouglas- the blueberries were really tasty! :-) And hope your DW gets to feeing better soon.

Losltp- I'm with you and pretty much use the same fruits, plus melons, and sometimes fresh mint. Here's a recipe that I've been meaning to try some day... maybe for a special occasion. It sounds incredible with the sparkling wine! http://magnoliadays.com/2013/sparkling-summer-fruit-salad/ And yes... I'd love to know where that produce stand is, as well. Sounds wonderful!!!

Tonight we are having garlic shrimp on a big green salad with lots of veggies. Dessert is local strawberries with whipped cream. Yum!

Ascherer, I'm so sorry about your Dad. I really feel for you -- it's hard watching older parents struggle so much with health problems.

RFB - intrude? Not at all!! :) Thanks for the tip on the blueberries. Maybe I'll venture out to the Aldi in Knightdale. I keep forgetting it's there.

Losltp, thanks as well about the blueberries at Kroger. But what I REALLY want to know is where is the produce stand you mentioned?

Dinner tonight... maybe baked cod again? I made way too much broccoli soup, and I think DW is tired of it. Hopefully I can freeze it, but it has half & half in it, so I'm not sure if I can. Truth be told, I'd really like a steak salad, but my poor DW probably would as well, and I wouldn't do that to her.

Kroger has blueberries for $1.88 this week - and they are very good .

What do most of you put in your fruit salad ?
I just mix whatever fruit I have together - maybe a squirt of lemon ( my usuals are bananas ,pineapple, apples; strawberries, blueberries, grapes & oranges are the specials - in season and/or good price )
On my almost daily stop at local produce stand the young man said the strawberry fields are so full they can not pick them fast enough !
I forgot to ask about local blueberries - I will check the next time ( today ?).
He had fresh asparagus last week

Saturday night was grilled pork chops and grilled corn on the cob (both on sale at Kroger). Also, butter beans (frozen) and a salad (all in the fridge). I love raiding my Momma's kitchen and freezer (still too early for her garden) but hate that Daddy is back in the hospital.

Jdouglas - I feel your pain. The ups and downs of our parent's health can really get to you some times.

    Happy Mother's Day!

jdouglas - I KNOW!!!! They were sampling the teritaki pineapple chicken meatballs today at HT and I tried a bite - clearly I was very hungry. :-) They were awesome and both the girls loved them. The sampler tempted us with a coupon and that's all she wrote.....

The blueberries were Dole brand from Walmart. And my oldest surprised us all by eating the rest of the watermelon before dinner so that was not part of the fruit salad. lol
