JDouglas13 - I'd be grateful - and truly honored - to receive your family recipe for border cake!! With your response, I've confirmed my pantry has the proper chocolate and enough cinnamon and cloves to make it while staying in budget. Thank you for your generosity and kindness to share! Very much looking forward to trying this special treat :)

Leftovers tonight for us! We are at the beach next week for one last summer vaca. I'll be eating swell :). Have a great week everyone!

EM2S, the border cake uses squares of unsweetened chocolate, a heaping teaspoon of cinnamon (I don't measure) and about a teaspoon of ground cloves. Let me know if you'd like the recipe as I don't think you'll find it anywhere. It goes back to the Depression era.

Haha, I'm glad I passed along the corn chowder love to everyone :-) It was delicious again last night.

Tonight we are finally making time to go out and celebrate buying our first house! So dinner will involve no cooking, no cleaning, and no real effort on our part! I won't lie... I'm looking forward to it after moving!

JDouglas - Your border cake is one I'd like to try to make for an upcoming event. Would you mind noting what type of chocolate you use? and how much cinnamon?

Yum-m-m, cajun shrimp salad! Sounds scrumptious, Faye :) I've got some shrimp in the freezer to use with this tasty idea (? - tomorrow evening or Sunday - ?)

Happy last day of vacation, LindaBates!!

TheRealNCYankee - Praying your time of struggle is very soon replaced by joy and prosperity! May your very late meal be especially delicious -- and hopefully uninterrupted.

lindabates - enjoy your last vacation day!

jdouglas13 - you could have cajun shrimp with a side of corn chowder! :-)

It's my last day of vacation... summer break has been awesome but I admit I've been lazydeco today so it's a hamburger helper kinda night!

  • jdouglas13 Aug 26, 2016

I'm thinking maybe corn chowder, too, Raesmom. That sounded so good! Although if I go outside, I might change my mind. Plan B may be a roasted veggie salad with Cajun shrimp. Thanks for the idea, Faye! I'll have to see what I can scrounge up to make a Cajun seasoning blend.

    More border cake for dessert.

Tonight we are having cajun shrimp on a salad with crescent rolls on the side.

Em2s - those rosemary parm taters sound great!

TheRealNCYankee - So true! At least you get to enjoy the struggle at half price. ;-)

raesmom1612 - I love corn chowder as well. It's almost soup season - yay!
