Let me know which recipes you try, Dr D and Raesmom. I want to try the roasted chickpeas.

Raesmom1612 - Saffron Road makes flavored chickpea snacks. They are delicious. They were sampling them at the Southern Womens Show. I think HT has them. I'm sure they are not cheap though. Dr D had great protein suggestions.

Here is a site with a number of suggestions (some require refrigeration so ignore those). There is a recipe for do it yourself roasted chickpeas as well. :

    Raesmom, REFRIGERATE!!! LOL

Ascherer, glad you have water/hot water again! If this is the first new water heater for this house, you are doing VERY well!

Hi RAESMOM1612, Yes, hard-boiled eggs do need to be refrigerated, and even then they're only good for about a week. Portable protein ideas that don't need refrigeration: jerky (pricey if store-bought, less pricey if you make your own - I can e-mail my fav recipe to you if you'd like), nuts, peanut or other nut butters, and tuna or salmon (canned or pouches). I've also seen recipes (but not tried yet myself) for baked goods made with protein powder (think DIY protein bars). Finally, I've seen but not yet tried a recipe for dry roasted chickpeas, which you should be able to season any way he'd like. Please let me know if you receive other portable protein suggestions that work out well, as I'm always looking for stuff like this myself. :-)

Question for all you top chefs :) if I hard book eggs do they have to stay refrigerated or can I leave them on the counter in the egg carton? DH is a protein freak and doesn't have a fridge while he is at the academy so I'm just trying to find different (cheaper) ways to get him some protein (we do bar's and shakes but without SD's and awesome $4 coupons they become pricey) during the week. He eats boiled eggs while he is home on the weekend's and I would love to send him back with some, but was worried about refrigeration.......thanks :)

And I have water again. Hopefully it will be hot after my nap. Fix one was done today. Fix two will be done soon (I hope). Our house will be 30 in a few months and she is not taking 30 as gracefully as I did.
