Great meals tonight everyone! The salad challenge sounds great RFB! I would fail that challenge based on the amazing ingredients you are using, but it does sounds fun. lol Macadamia nut cream sauce sounds divine!

Nakabi- what a great idea (as I quite a bit left)! I think I'll give that a try :-)

Oops, the dinner menu. Forgot all about that. Last night was Old Faithful - do I even need to say it? - M&C and steamed broccoli.

Tonight we are going to attempt a steak on the grill and see how DW does with it if I make it medium rare - rare, and slice it super thin. Sides will be garlic bread on the grill (so good that way), and maybe a salad of tomatoes, green beans, corn in a lemon vinaigrette.

Ascherer, that's so sweet of you to ask about my crew. :) My folks are doing pretty well these days, all things considered given their respective illnesses, no big emergencies for which I'm so grateful. My DW is still struggling with dental issues, but is doing better than she was. Thanks for asking!

Your friend is lucky to have you and I know she will enjoy the dinner you're bringing her. Sounds like perfect comfort food, delicious, and easy to eat all in one.

What kind of recipes are you looking for? For your friend or DH? I'll be glad to make suggestions if it will help. Sending good thoughts on the job. Don't stress about it. If it is meant to be, you'll get it. If you don't, there's something even better waiting in the wings.

Nakabi, you know I'm drooling all over my keyboard with your dinner menu! ;)

RFB, your salads sound amazing. Fun challenge!

Raesmom, you did great at SD, especially since that included produce and meat. Way to go girl.

    Belated happy Friday all!

RFB-napa cabbage sounds perfect and a great texture for salad!
Raw nori seaweed is pretty strong smelling so I like to use it as a base for soups. Add it to some mushroom soup (shiitake of course) if you haven't ever tried it. Savoy cabbage is a must for this soup I think! I also add it it to misso soup since my 3 year old doesn't like mushrooms.

Nakabi- thanks! I think for this I'll use some Napa cabbage since it's an all white salad (or mostly white!) But I agree on loving purple, and have used it often this week!

I've never really tried much seaweed... when I made nori rolls the other day it honestly reminded me of not the best smell, remembering visiting my DH working on the fishing boats when we first started dating (so fishy- ugh!) But, I'm sure I'll get used to it, as it is really good for you! :-)

RFB-the produce challenge sounds fun. Great choice on the jicama. Will you be using purple or green cabbage? I'm partial to purple, gives such great colour! Seaweed..YUM!!! I love the dried seaweed and keep it at work for a lowfat snack....just have to watch the sodium.

Ascherer- sending some prayers and good thoughts your way for the possible new job, too! I will say, I've had dinner pretty much every single day w/my husband for the 24 years we've been married. And I appreciate you reminding me again just how special this family time is! And yes, on the official taste tester status lol! :-)

Nakabi- love your meal choice... especially the Havarti! And how fun on the fire pit with fire flies... sounds perfect to start out the weekend!

Raesmom- I'm with you... love this blog (thanks Faye!)

And for tonight... I know we're doing a seaweed salad for class. But, I'm most excited about our produce challenge. Looks like we'll have 1 hour to make a dish (Iron Chef style) only using things we have on hand! Think I'll make two salads on romaine leaves. The first, a white on white with jicama, apple, cabbage, fennel with a macadamia nut cream sauce. And the second a spicy beet salad with beets, orange juice, jalapeno, chopped pistachio nuts... and we'll see.

Well last night homemade pizza didnt work out, Hubby and BIL went fishing as soon as I got home, so Rae and I did an SD trip did ok ($240 worth of stuff including fresh fruits veggies and meats paid $105) so we made tacos instead. We will try to do the pizza and banana bread tonight :)

Ascherer~ I will be praying for your job! This blog is amazing and I have formed a few friendships myself thanks to Fays Brigade :) I thank you all as well!! Let us know when you need some receipes......we will be here

Thank you to all of you. Daily you remind me of how important family is and why try to take care of them so much.

Finally I get to do a HT SD right and have so many coupons that are going to work. My pantry has been neglected. I will report how much I have on the savings. I'm not sure I can match the 85% right now but if I can get 50% I will be a happy girl.

DH gets stewed beef on biscuits (both from the freezer) with steamed broccoli and may be some pan fried squash.

Thank you again. You have been my with me through some of the worst months of my life.

I can't say Thank you enough.
