JDouglas and the 10 lb cheese block!

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas.

What's on your menu tonight?

As promised in the Super Doubles post on Thursday, here is the photo of JDouglas and her big 10 lb hunk of awesome Parmesan cheese on sale this week!  Now that is some good looking cheese!  Thanks for being a good sport, JDouglas and letting me take the picture of you and your cheese. And your hair looks great! :-)

    Thanks Losltp! :)

Raesmom, poor baby girl!! Please give the child some pasta quick! hahahaha

Careless, swiss chard is flavorful, but not bitter. Very delicious. Like kale and spinach, you can add it raw to salad. If you decide to cook it, it only takes literally seconds. It's yucky if cooked to mush. And garlic is a perfect choice as an add-in.

careless ~ did you see the promo for Realy someone posted about the other day? They have the same kind of deal going on, their boxes are normally $40 but if you go to and enter code 777 you can get one of their $40 boxes for $7! I havent tried it yet, but looking to do that this weekend. Not sure im ready to pay $40 or $26 for a box of produce yet, but $7 i could swing :)

Thanks Raesmom. The box tomorrow looks pretty good (peaches, cantelope, bibb lettuce, tomatoes, squash, bluberries, swiss chard. One question though, how is the taste of swiss chard, bitter like mustard greens or more like spinach? I'm quit sure that it will be ok with some fresh garlic and seasonings.

Raesmom, that's almost two weeks with no pasta! I would not be taking it as well! ;)

Dinner last night ended up being French toast with some of the delicious raisin pecan bread that I got for free at SD. I baked the turkey breast, but was too tired to start fooling around with stuffing, etc. Tonight we're going to have the turkey breast and all the fixings. I'm betting tomorrow will be turkey sandwiches -- my fave part of having turkey.

Clearly, I was very excited about my gorgeous hunk! LOL Thanks for all the great comments!

Flying, reggiano parmigiano (RP) is a pretty crumbly cheese, so you will never get perfect little squares out of it. For a block like that, I will probably divide it into 10 pieces, and double wrap it super tight in plastic wrap for the freezer. Sometimes it then goes into a Ziploc bag depending on my freezer space. For the fridge, I take it out of the plastic and wrap it in wax paper (does anyone but me even use that any more?), and then into a small Ziploc. I grate it as I need it on a box grater or microplane zester.
