Wendell man pleads guilty in teen's shooting death
A Wendell man was sentenced Thursday to 13 to 25 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the December shooting death of a neighbor, authorities said.

Robert Keith Furey, 55, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 15-year-old Nick Exley, who lived across the street from Furey.
Prosecutors said Furey was showing a rifle to Exley and a friend when the gun went off, killing the Corinth Holders High School freshman.
That is what Furey told Johnston County deputies who investigated the case, although he told a different story when he called 911 to report the shooting. Then, he told a dispatcher that he shot Exley when the teen unexpectedly walked into his home.
"This was such a tragic case for all the parties involved," Assistant Johnston County District Attorney Davis Weddle said in a statement. "The victim's family understood that the state could not proceed on anything more than involuntary manslaughter based upon the facts, and they were satisfied with the plea and the sentence."
