Chapel Hill shoppers will be interested to know that Wegman's may be coming your way!
The family-owned, Rochester, N.Y.-based chain has 88 stores in New York, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts and they are continuing to announce upcoming stores planned for North Carolina.
A statement from Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale indicates, "Wegmans has signed a letter of intent to build a store in Chapel Hill on the site located at Hwy 15-501. The Chapel Hill site is in addition to one located at Cary Town Blvd. announced in January. In addition to these, Wegmans is considering multiple other sites in the Raleigh/Durham market, but until there are firm deals for each site, I am unable to share the locations or other details.”
According to the Town of Chapel Hill, the store would be located on Hwy 15-501 and is currently the location of Performance AutoMall. The AutoMall should be closing in July 2017. The store would bring 350 new jobs to the area.
In January 2016, Wegmans announced that it planned to build a store across from Cary Towne Center.
