Weekly Wrap: Primary colors
North Carolina's primary went as expected for most candidates, with Gov. Pat McCrory and Attorney General Roy Cooper easily winning the Republican and Democratic nominations, respectively, for governor and U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and former lawmaker Deborah Ross doing likewise in the Senate race.

Outside of the primary, the week was marked by McCrory disbanding the Coal Ash Management Commission, which was at the center of his separation of powers lawsuit against the General Assembly over appointments to the commission. Oversight of the closure of coal ash pits statewide is now being overseen by the Department of Environmental Quality.
Also on the energy front, the Obama administration reversed itself and barred oil and gas drilling in the Atlantic Ocean. The move prompted criticism from McCrory and other Republican politicians, who said it would cost North Carolina thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue.
