Weekly shopping totals for August 7 - 13: Saved 64%

Posted August 16, 2013

Time to calculate those savings!

Here are my weekly grocery totals for the week of August 7 - August 13.

Subtotal before sales and coupons: $229.74

Total saved: $146.84

Total paid: $82.90

% Saved: 64%

My weekly budget is $80/week so I came in $2.90 over budget last week. I expect I will make up for it this week with all the fabulous Super Doubles deals!

Last week I shopped at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, CVS (quick trip for .99 Coke Zero for hubby using a CVS gift card from Swagbucks), Walgreens (quick trip for 3 dozen eggs for .99 using a rain check from a previous week) and the local farm stand for plenty of fresh produce.

To figure out the percentage you saved:

Take the total amount saved divided by the total amount before sales and coupons.

Using the example above, take $146.84 divided by $229.74 = .639 (round that number to 64%)

How did you do this week?

Yes, we're done for watermelon for the year LOL ;)

ilovelucy, I keep a spreadsheet of my grocery spending simply to keep myself in check as far as spending. If I didn't, trust me, my numbers would be MUCH larger. I try to list what I bought on the spreadsheet as well as any special sales or events like SD. As long as I enter the info each time, it's really pretty easy to keep up. FWIW, my view is if you're saving money, that's all that matters!

Lindalarry, glad the coupons are a help. I am probably skipping SD this time around. Most of my August grocery budget went towards a trip to see my Mom in July, but we have a full freezer and pantry, so we're good. :)

jdouglas13, Thank you so much for the coupons. They will really help me. Hope your super doubles has been successful. I wish I lived in Raleigh during HT super doubles but Clayton, with the high price of gas) makes it hard to go as much as I would like.

Wow jdouglas that is great! I wish I was organized enough to micromanage my spending as well as you and Faye, I have to admit I'm not quite there yet, I do coupon and save a great deal but I am not tracking monthly spending as I should be.

We've been trying to keep our grocery spending to an absolute minimum this month, so our numbers are pretty good. Our purchases include mostly perishables - dairy and eggs, veg, a bit of meat, and the finally put to rest watermelon.

For the week of August 7-13: total retail $72.02, OOP $31.94, savings $40.08 or 56%

For the month so far (including the numbers above): toal retail $160.46, OOP $93.04, savigs $67.43 or 42%.
