Weekly shopping totals: Saved 76%!

Posted July 17, 2013

Time to calculate those savings!

Thanks to Harris Teeter Super Doubles, I was able to save 76% on groceries for the week of 7/10 - 7/16!

Subtotal before sales and coupons: $332.23
Total saved: $253.83
Total paid: $78.40
% Saved: 76%

My weekly budget is $80/week so I came in just under budget this week with a whopping $1.60 to spare!

I went to Harris Teeter Super Doubles 2 times during the week. I also shopped at Lowes Foods, CVS and Dollar General.

I stocked up during Super Doubles on shampoo, conditioner, Hellman's light mayo, Electrasol dishwasher detergent, yogurt, eggs, veggie burgers, Hefty bags (using rain check), Wishbone dressing, Lance crackers and more at Harris Teeter. I also bought peaches and chicken breast (among other things) at Lowes Foods. Dollar General involved a last minute milk run....in the pouring rain. CVS purchases included Coke Zero, snacks and health and beauty items.

To figure out the percentage you saved:

Take the total amount saved divided by the total amount before sales and coupons.

Using the example above, take 253.82 divided by 332.23 = .7639888 (round that number to 76%)

How did you do this week?

I think I spent about $120 at Harris Teeter during superdoubles because I kept finding excellent deals on marked-down packages of Angus beef. My family and I have already enjoyed some of it but most of the packages are in the freezer for future use. I've tried to spend less this last week to make up for the extra spending. My goal is to spend an average of $80 per week for my family of 3. Yet when I see something I want that's a good price, I don't hesitate to stock up. Now I need a good deal on whole roaster chickens.

Great job tldavids! I love it when I can stock up on non-food essentials for a fraction of the retail cost.

DianeNC - Give me some information from your shopping trip to HT and I will help you figure it out:

    1. How much did you pay after all sales and coupons we deducted?

    2. How much does the receipt indicate that you saved on the Coupons Tendered line (it's the line that is usually right above the date)?

  • DianeNC Jul 17, 2013

I still can't figure this out, but thanks anyway.

Great job, wildfrench! You and I have almost the same spending and saving amounts this week.

My hubby loves pimento cheese so he would approve your splurge. :-) My splurge last week was a box of 5 doughnuts marked down from the Lowes Foods bakery for $1.25. The kids completely supported that slurge. lol

Thanks Faye & twoboysandadog! I don't have my receipt with me at the moment, but will try your calculations tonight and let you know what I come up with. :D
