RALEIGH, N.C. — Say “goodbye” to this week’s frigid temperatures – a warm-up on the way this weekend could take temperatures to 60 degrees across the Triangle.

Overnight lows dipped below freezing across much of the area early Saturday morning, but they climbed into the mid-50s by lunchtime.

Light showers were falling across parts of south-central North Carolina Saturday afternoon., and they could linger in the area into the evening.

“Sprinkles are possible across the Triangle during the afternoon hours Saturday, and we could see a rain shower into the evening hours,” WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

Cloudy skies will stay put Sunday as temperatures continue to climb into the low 60s. Morning showers are possible on Sunday and low temperatures will drop to near 40 degrees.

Monday and Tuesday will be cooler with highs in the 40s.

“We could see some sprinkles on Monday and Tuesday, but the next chance for rain will likely be Wednesday when the next cold front arrives,” Maze said.
