Weekend warm-up on the way

"Saturday will be the peak of the heat," WRAL Meteorologist Mike Maze said. "We will see temperatures drop slightly into Sunday and the beginning of next week."

Saturday will start off warm with temperatures in the mid-60s. Afternoon highs should top out in the upper 80s as abundant sunshine dominates the day. 

Sunny skies will stay put on Sunday as high temperatures climb into the mid 80s. 

In other weather developments, disorganized Tropical Storm Karen will continue its trek toward the Gulf Coast, but forecasters say it is unlikely to make landfall as a hurricane.

"We will see a front move into our area Monday, along with the remains of Tropical Storm Karen. We can expect heavy rain and gusty winds Monday, with temperatures in the 80s. The Triangle could also see the potential for severe weather," Maze said.

Weather conditions for the remainder of the work week are expected to be dry with temperatures back into the 70s.
