Weekend triathlon lets kids compete, help other kids

I had the pleasure of participating in a mini-triathlon at the Montessori School of Raleigh this morning to promote a great event that supports a wonderful cause.

Registration is open and kids can register to compete the morning of the race. (Registration closes 30 minutes before the start of the race).

While the event offers a great opportunity for kids to show their stuff, it also raises money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research to fund pediatric cancer research at Duke Children's Hospital. The foundation has awarded more than $14 million to continue pediatric cancer research. 

This morning, WNCN's Sean Maroney, WTVD's Steve Daniels and I were paired up with students from the north Raleigh Montessori school, which is sending nearly 45 kids to the triathlon on Sunday to compete. A big hat tip to students Diana Luther, Maroney's partner; Chloe Piques, Daniels' partner; and the great Cy Reading, my partner!

We competed in a water sponge race that involved holding a wet sponge over our heads; a cycle challenge with teeny bikes and tricycles; and hula hooping. Congratulations to Maroney and Diana for coming in first! 

Thanks to the Montessori School of Raleigh and Applebee's Gold Group, which is hosting Sunday's event, for inviting us to make fools of ourselves! It was a lot of fun!
