Weekend to include plenty of 'dry time' for central NC

WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth says Triangle residents should expect to see mostly cloudy skies to close the work week as high temperatures climb into the upper 70s.

"We could see a few sprinkles across the region today, but no major precipitation will accompany the clouds that will be with us today," she said. "There could be an occasional period of sunshine during the afternoon and evening."

More sunshine is likely on Saturday as high temperatures return to the low 80s. On Sunday, clouds will fill in during the day as the next area of low pressure pushes east toward the state. Daytime highs to close the weekend will be in the mid-70s.

The system was centered over the Rocky Mountains and western Plains early Friday, producing snow in higher elevations and showers and storms in parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

"This system is going to take its time moving east, but it will be headed toward the Triangle by late in the day Sunday," Wilmoth said. "It's going to bring us clouds to close the weekend and then create a very wet start to the week.

Monday morning's commute hours could be "miserable," Wilmoth said, as heavy rain moves through the area. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible Monday as well as the system pushes through the state.

Once it clears, however, the area will get to enjoy three consecutive days filled with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s.
