Weekend Plans: Modern dance, Civil War train reenactment, outdoor movie, money expo

The American Dance Festival, which offers some amazing dance in Durham each summer, has a children’s performance at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Durham Performing Arts Center. Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca will perform. After the one-hour performance, there’s a party for kids in DPAC’s lobby.
New Hope Valley Railway in southwestern Wake County will be home to a massive reenactment of the Battle of Morrisville, the Civil War's last official battle which took place 150 years ago. Ticketholders can board the train and watch as re-enactors act out the battle while the train is in motion. More activities and action will be at the rail yard. It takes place several times on both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $25.
Durham's Rock the Park series will feature a screening of "The Sandlot," rated PG, starting at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, at Durham Central Park. It's one of many outdoor movies this summer across the region.
Well Fed Community Garden in Raleigh will host a nutrition workshop for kids from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday. It’s free and designed to teach kids about where their food comes from and organic farm life. The instructors include a few kids.
The Raleigh Money Expo is Friday through Sunday at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. The event offers some activities for kids; free coins and stamps for kids; young collector programs; and other educational events. Admission and parking are free.
Ornamentea, the bead and craft store in downtown Raleigh, will offer one of its Pop-Up Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. Kids and pets are welcome to this event that features vendors, food trucks, crafts for kids and more.
