Weekend Plans: Harlem Globetrotters, Easter Bunny visits, family theater, more

Happy weekend! Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front. As always, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for more ideas.

The Easter Bunny starts taking his seat at local malls. Our Easter events database has the details, along with information about egg hunts across the region.

The Harlem Globetrotters make their annual stop at Raleigh’s PNC Arena with two shows - 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets start at around $18. These shows are so much fun for kids and families.

Raleigh Little Theatre’s “When She Had Wings,” part of its youth series, runs through April 2. The show tells the story of a young girl, who dreams of flying, and runs into a mysterious woman, who might be Amelia Earhart. I took my kids last weekend. The show is a lot of fun! Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.

Theatre Raleigh opens “The Wolf,” the second show in its youth series. It wrapped up “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” last weekend. “The Wolf” is a mash up-of various fairy tales - and also a lot of fun. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids. The show, at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh, runs through April 2.

And at the Holly Springs Cultural Center, Carolina Children's Theatre presents "The Snow Queen,” with shows Friday and Saturday. The show is based on the original tale by Hans Christian Andersen that inspired Disney’s “Frozen.” Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids under 12.

The Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties will present its annual Touch a Truck from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, in the Belk Parking Lot in The Streets at Southpoint. Tickets are $5 per person. Kids under 2 are free. Children will enjoy a hands-on opportunity to see and touch heavy machinery and meet the people who build, protect and serve Durham and Orange counties. Kids with sensory issues may enjoy a quieter hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University hosts a free family day from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday. Explore the All Matterings of Mind exhibition and make your own magical works of art. The Duke Chemistry Society will present “The Magic of Chemistry” and magician Joshua Lozoff will dazzle all ages with his close-up magic in the Great Hall. It’s all free.

And there’s a Rodeo on Rosemary from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, on the block of Rosemary Street between Henderson and North Columbia streets in Chapel Hill. There will be a dozen food trucks, games, a DJ and more. Tables and chairs will be set up on the top of the Wallace Parking deck.
