Weekend Plans: Festivals, bike rodeo, strawberry picking, moms

Happy Mother’s Day weekend! Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front. As always, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for more great ideas!

Strawberry season continues! Strawberry farms across the region are open for business. Our strawberry farm database has the details.

If you’re looking for a special way to mark Mother’s Day, check out five of our favorite outdoor spots, including Duke Gardens, which hosts a family concert and drop-in activity this weekend, along with the N.C. Museum of Art, which has family tours and a storytime on its schedule.

Teens can put down the books and head over to the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' Nature Research Center in downtown Raleigh for Teen Night at the Museum. It is 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, for teens in eighth through twelfth grade. The evening includes science, pizza, music, dancing in the SECU Daily Planet Theater and other activities. The cost is $5 at the door or $3 if you register in advance.

Marbles Kids Museum has a bike rodeo on Saturday.

Apex Peakfest is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday.

The Ham & Yam Festival in Smithfield is 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday.

The Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival is a massive festival that runs Thursday to Sunday in Chatham County. It includes a kid’s zone with hands-on crafts, entertainment and more.

A Strawberry Festival is at Old North Durham Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Meet in the Street is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, in downtown Wake Forest.
