Weekend Plans Easter Edition: What's open, closed, happening

Posted March 23, 2016

Happy Easter weekend! It’s a slower weekend as many people will be celebrating the holiday. May it be filled with all the food, treats and reflective moments you hope for with friends and family.

As always, check’s Out & About calendar for more activities. And our Spring Break Guide has plenty of activities to keep families busy during the next week.

Our Easter database has the details on egg hunts and Easter Bunny visits. This weekend, we have some big hunts. Vintage Church's massive Raleigh Easter is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Halifax Mall in downtown Raleigh. Seven hunt times are scheduled. About 50,000 eggs are planned. Vintage Church Durham will host Durham Easter from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at Durham Central Park. Both events will include other games, inflatables and more.

Some egg hunts with a twist also continue: The Museum of Life and Science’s Dino Egg Hunt wraps up this weekend. So does the Easter Bunny Express at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer. And JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh has its annual Spring Egg Hunt where you look for giant wooden eggs to unscramble a secret code.

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences will close its special exhibit Extreme Mammals this weekend. The exhibit features all sorts of weird and absolutely wonderful animals that roamed the planet ages ago and are still alive today.

Finally, Raleigh Little Theatre wraps up its run of “Miss Nelson is Missing” on Sunday.

And here are the Easter holiday hours for some local destinations:

  • Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh
