We're taking a bit of a break this week here at Go Ask Mom headquarters, but I won't leave you hanging if you're looking to get out of the house once those gifts are unwrapped.

Our Winter Break Guide features all kinds of holiday and weekend fun - from ice skating to holiday lights to performances and more.
WRAL.com's Out & About calendar has lots of listings.

And there are a couple of activities that I wanted to highlight:

Transactors Improv: For Families! will host an improv show at 2 p.m., Saturday, featuring a lot of laughs (suitable for family audiences). Christmas pajamas are encouraged for this one! The show will be fully improvised, made up on the spot, and based on your suggestions! Best for ages 3 and up. General tickets are $10, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children and students. Common Ground Theatre is located at 4815 B Hillsborough Rd. in Durham.
Also, the Holly Springs Cultural Center will host a free holiday movie festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. It will feature "The Muppet Christmas Carol," "Santa Buddies," "The Search for Santa Paws" and "Snow Buddies." All of those movies are rated G. Concessions will be for sale for a small fee.
And here are the holiday hours for popular destinations this weekend:
Marbles Kids Museum is closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Its IMAX theater will be showing "The Polar Express" at 10 a.m., Dec. 24. The theater is open both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but showings for "The Force Awakens" are sold out.
The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, the N.C. Museum of Art and the N.C. Museum of History are closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
The Museum of Life and Science in Durham is open Dec. 24, but closed Dec. 25.
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. It is operating under special holiday hours for the next couple of weeks with shows most other days, except Jan. 1.
Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill is closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
And the N.C. Zoo in Asheboro is closed Dec. 25 (the only day that it's closed all year!).
