Weekend Plans: Artsplosure, Got to Be NC, Paw Patrol, Wool E.'s birthday, more

It’s a huge weekend of activities with so many things happening. So let’s just get right to it. As always, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for information about even more.

Artsplosure is Friday through Sunday in downtown Raleigh. The free arts festival features activities just for kids on Saturday and Sunday. It also will again feature a giant inflatable structure that visitors can walk through. Of big note this year: The entire festival has moved completely to Fayetteville Street.

The Got to Be NC Festival is Friday through Sunday at the NC State Fairgrounds in west Raleigh. Admission and parking are free. There are lots of animals, tractors and activities for kids, along with rides and games.

Moogfest in Durham runs Thursday through Sunday and offers lots of activities for families, including a visit from DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba on Saturday.

And Bimbe Cultural Arts Festival is in Durham for the 47th year. It’s noon to 8 p.m., Saturday, at Rock Quarry Park, 701 Stadium Dr. The free event, designed for all ages, celebrates African and African American history, culture, arts and traditions.

Paw Patrol Live will be at the Durham Performing Arts Center for five shows this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets start at $21.

Wheels on Academy, a car show with lots of other activities for kids and families, is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, in downtown Cary.

At the Durham Bulls’ game at 5 p.m., Sunday, they’ll celebrate Wool E. Bull’s birthday. Mascots from across the state will visit to celebrate. Kids also can run the bases after the game.

Speaking of sports, the N.C. Courage, professional women’s soccer team, has a game at 4 p.m., Sunday, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

And speaking of birthday parties, Historic Oak View County Park’s annual Barnyard Birthday Bash is 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. The morning includes games, activities, cake and a celebration of the park’s goats, including two new ones! It's free. Registration isn't required.

The GoRaleigh R-LINE will become the ART-LINE from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Art-On-The-Move public art project. Shows will begin and end at bus-stop R-13 in front of the Raleigh Convention Center, 500 S. Salisbury St., but attendees can hop on or off the ART-LINE at any of the stops. The ART-LINE is free and open to the public. The moving stage will feature performances from actors, comedians, poets and musicians.

The Odyssey of the Mind team from Pine Hollow Middle School is having a fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, at The Daily Pint, 9521 Lumley Rd., to raise funds for the team's trip to the World Finals competition at Michigan State University. The team will be having a very large silent auction, food and drinks. A portion of all beer sales will benefit the team. A GoFundMe page has more information about the team's efforts.

To mark International Museum Day and Artsplosure, the City of Raleigh Museum will let guests of all ages build the skyline of Raleigh using miniature building blocks. It’s Thursday to Sunday.

The Tour D’Coop in Raleigh is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at backyard chicken coops, bee hives and gardens throughout Wake County. Recommended admission is a $10 donation per individual or a $20 donation per carload. Day-of tickets will be available at Ace Hardware Seaboard Station, Oak City Cycling, and Raleigh & Cary Whole Foods locations for $12 per individual or $25 per carload. There will be food trucks, live music and animal demonstrations at some of the stops. This is a fundraiser for Urban Ministries of Wake County.

Harris Lake County Park’s 8th annual Longleaf Festival is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the park in New Hill. The free event features information about the longleaf pine, how it is managed with fire, its history and the wildlife and plants that depend on its natural habitat.

Cary’s Fest in the West is noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, at the USA Baseball complex and features an arts and crafts village, kids zone, music and more.

Piedmont Wildlife Center will host its fourth annual BioBlitz, which the group describes as an “epic nature scavenger hunt.” It’s 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at Leigh Farm Park, in Durham. Expert naturalists and volunteers will be on site to search the park for as many species as possible in less than 24 hours. In past years, they have found brand new species to both North Carolina and the United States. (Wow!).

Apex’s Touch-a-Truck event is 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, at Apex Community Park. A horn-free hour is planned 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. It’s free.

Paperhand Puppet Intervention will perform at 3 p.m., Saturday, at the Cary Arts Center as part of Cary’s Marvelous Music Family Series. Tickets are $8.

And, Transactors Improv: For Families! is 6 p.m., Saturday, at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for kids. The show is best for grade schoolers and up.
