NC shoppers get final sales tax break

Posted October 31, 2013

The Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday Nov. 1 through 3 offers North Carolina shoppers their last chance at tax-free shopping. Legislators eliminated the annual, back-to-school and other sales tax holidays in an effort to boost state revenue.

The November event is targeted to consumers looking to replace an outdated appliance with one that is more energy efficient. They pay no sales tax on clothes washers, freezers, refrigerators, central air conditioners, room air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats that bear the Energy Star label.

The holiday begins Friday at 12 a.m. and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

It is always tax free weekend for me on amazon dot com.

Exactly. I guess the GOP wants everyone to have Amazon Prime and purchase items from out of state. At least the wealthier are getting their tax breaks?

Hey whatelseisnew - You can thank Obama and the ACA for your being able to get a more complete policy with richer benefits. Just because you aren't going through the exchange, you are still better off thanks to those rascally Democrats.

Thanks for the tip. I will look into this. It would be great to save another year before being raped by Obamacare. At least there is a chance something may happen during the year to change things...

"Another "cash for clunkers" scam. LOL."

The only thing "LOL" about it is your ignorance of the obvious difference between the government handing out money and the government letting you keep a little bit more of your own money.

If you are one of the people being victimized by ObamaCare there is an option. The plan I have for my spouse was eliminated by the ACA despite the repeated lies from Obama and the Dems. I just found out I can buy a policy that will start this year and the premium and policy benefits are locked in until December 2014. So I am transitioning insurance companies, buying this new policy and I will cancel the old policy that is disappearing at the end of the year anyway. The difference is instead of paying 438 dollars per month more than I am paying now, I will be paying 107 dollars a month more. So at least I avoid for almost another year being victimized by the Federal Government and all the selfish greedy people that could care less that others are losing their insurance while they the greedy selfish people get a nice fat subsidy. If you need to fine a non-ACA plan, go to ehealth.com. At least that way you are only being gouged by the ACA taxes.

Uh...you obviously don't realize you're legally obligated to pay tax on anything you buy that way....

it's called use tax, and it's a line item on the state tax form.

If Tim Geitner doesn't py his taxes andObaa can nominate him to run the fed...then why should I have to report my online purchases to NC? Double standard much? I believe Obama has appointed at least 4 other tax cheats as well...AT LEAST!!!

"Too bad most new appliances don't last long so think carefully about replacing those old ones that are much cheaper to repair and maintain."

Too true. I have a Fridgedaire I bought in 1980. Never needed a repair and still going strong.

Or work less, and let Dear Leader and his gang take care of your needs. Once your in the subsidized class you don't need to worry.
