RALEIGH, N.C. — It's a busy weekend in the Triangle and here are our picks for what to do:
Krispy Kreme Challenge - This annual event features running and doughnuts. Runners start at the N.C. State Belltower, travel 2.5 miles to Krispy Kreme, consume a dozen doughnuts then run back. Things get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday. All proceeds from the run go to the N.C. Children's Hospital.
Mardi Gras Crawl - Carolina Nightlife hosts a Mardi Gras Crawl in downtown Raleigh Friday night. The crawl will hit five area bars in the Fayetteville Street area and include drink specials. Admission is $10 in advance and $20 the day-of. Note: If you book before Feb. 4 and use the promo code "WRAL16," you can get tickets for half price.

Family fun

Circus - Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus Xtreme is at PNC Arena in Raleigh through Sunday. The show features high-wire wizards, powerful strongmen, BMX trick riders, trampoline daredevils, inconceivable contortionists, a high-flying human cannonball and a bungee aerial skydiving display. Tickets start at $13.
Wake Forest Mardi Gras Street Festival - This family-friendly day in downtown Wake Forest includes a parade, live music and children's activities. The event is free.

Arts

Jennifer Nettles - CMT and Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Jennifer Nettles will play DPAC Friday night. She will be joined by the "Next Women of Country" - Brandy Clark, Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson.
Margaret Cho - The comedian and actress plays Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh Thursday through Saturday. General admission tickets are $30.
NC Comedy Arts Fest: Ladies Night - Whether performing improv, sketch or standup, these ladies know how to make funny happen. Saturday night's showcase will include Julia McLung, Blaire Postman, Delanie Fisc and Grayson Morris. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Local 506 in Chapel Hill. Admission is $12.

Dance Theatre of Harlem - Now in its fourth decade, Dance Theatre of Harlem has grown into a multi-cultural dance institution with an extraordinary legacy of providing opportunities for creative expression and artistic excellence that continues to set standards in the performing arts. See them at Carolina Theatre of Durham Friday night. Tickets start at $12.
Ben Knight Art Opening - The co-owner of the Chef and the Farmer in Kinston will have an art opening at Rebus Works in Raleigh Friday night.
The Underpants - Theatre in the Park presents this show written by Steve Martin. It's a wild satire adapted from the classic German play about Louise and Theo Markes, a couple whose conservative existence is shattered when Louise's bloomers fall down in public. Shows are Friday through Sunday.
Battle of the Bands - Cat's Cradle hosts this competition Friday night. Eight bands will compete and only one will win a cash prize.
An Evening of Entertainment - Nearly 500 talented students from across the Durham school district will showcase their outstanding vocal music and professionally choreographed dance numbers during this event Saturday at DPAC. Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for graduating seniors from the DPS system.
Carolina Ballet's Love Speaks - The Carolina Ballet is kicking off their Shakespeare Festival, a series of performances in honor of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. The series starts with Love Speaks on Thursday at Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh.

For the foodies

Artisan Confections featuring Durham Distillery - Join Umstead's executive pastry chef Evan Sheridan as he bakes his way through gin and chocolate Sunday. Tickets are $65.
Grand Gala of the Triangle Wine Experience - This event, which benefits the Frankie Lemmon School, will feature world-class wine, silent and live auctions and more. Tickets are $250 per person.
