Weekend best bets: Hopscotch, Beericana, folk fest

RALEIGH, N.C. — A very busy weekend throughout the Triangle. Here are our picks:

Hopscotch Music Festival - In its sixth year, Hopscotch Music Fest just keeps growing. More than 100 shows to check out this year in downtown Raleigh. Shows are Thursday through Saturday. Day parties are free, but nightly shows require tickets or wristbands. City Plaza-only tickets, single-day wristbands and more are still available. National Folk Festival - Head to Greensboro for this free outdoor celebration of culture and music. More than 300 performers will take the stage Friday through Sunday. Notable acts this year include former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops Rhiannon Giddens and Mavis Staples.

Bull Durham Blues Festival - The annual celebration of blues kicks off Friday night with a ticketed VIP show at Hayti Heritage Center. The fun continues Saturday at 5 p.m. at Durham Central Park with a free concert.

Shindig - Stone Temple Pilots, Blues Traveler, Bleachers, Passion Pit, Live and more play this music festival at Walnut Creek Amphitheatre on Sunday.

Beericana - Head to Sugg Farm Park in Holly Springs for this celebration of local craft beer on Saturday. Food trucks will also be on hand. The event starts at noon and tickets are still available

Carnaval Latino Garner - This free festival at Garner Performing Arts Center will celebrate Latino culture and heritage through food, live music and more. The event is Sunday 1-4 p.m.

Falls Lake Festival - This free family-friendly festival is Saturday at Falls Lake Dam in Wake Forest. A paddle race and more fun will be happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Glass Jug 1 year celebration - The Glass Jug will celebrate its one year anniversary with a beer festival on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is free to attend but you will need to purchase tickets to sample brews.

3rd Annual Hollerin Heritage Festival - Make your way to Spivey's Corner on Saturday for the "National Hollerin' Contest" during the 3rd Annual Hollerin' Heritage Festival. The event starts at 11 a.m. and tickets are $5.

Oktoberfest Party - Raleigh Brewing Company hosts this event Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be live music, free swag and more. Admission is free.

Downtown Raleigh Home Show - An indoor treehouse and more DIY ideas for your home are all available at the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend. Friday through Sunday visit the show and get inspired. Tickets are $10 each and children aged 12 years and younger are admitted free. Celebrity guests this year include Kevin O'Connor of PBS' This Old House and Leanne Lee, Home and Garden Trendsetter of the Year also known as the "Diva of DIY."

Jerry Seinfeld - The comic plays two shows at DPAC Friday night. Few, if any, tickets remain, so buy early.

Milk Carton Kids - Known for releasing their albums for free, Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan make up the folk duo The Milk Carton Kids. These singers and guitarists have released two albums that have been downloaded more than 60,000 times. The band plays Carolina Theatre of Durham Sunday.

Dirty Dancing - The classic story is told on stage at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium this weekend. Tickets start at $27.

Cary Scavenger Hunt - Learn more about Cary during Saturday's Scavenger Hunt that will take teams through the town's parks, greenways and locally owned businesses.
