Wednesday Wrap: Throwing in the kitchen sink
Lawmakers debated dozens of bills Wednesday as they rush to push as much legislation through the pipeline as possible so they can adjourn for the year shortly after approving the 2017-18 budget next week.
Posted — UpdatedThe proposals included fining drivers for holding up traffic in the left lane of a highway. A similar proposal failed in the Senate earlier in the year, but it is scheduled to go to the House floor on Thursday.
Another bill calls for a vote on a constitutional amendment next year limiting the House speaker and Senate president pro tem to four consecutive two-year terms in charge of either chamber.
The appearance of the annual regulatory reform omnibus also signals that the end of the session is near. Provisions included changing the staffing levels at doggie day cares and ending the requirement that people selling home alarm systems be registered with a state board.
