Wednesday Wrap: Pressure pushing down on me
Lobbyists say legislative leaders are threatening retribution against businesses and their representatives who speak out against House Bill 2.
Posted — UpdatedAlthough House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger denied any threats, House Majority Leader Mike Hager is pushing to revoke tax credits from several companies who have publicly opposed the law. He says the timing is only a coincidence.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Chamber ended its long silence on House Bill 2 by asking for minor tweaks to the law without taking a stance on it.
In non-House Bill 2 news, a bill that would create felony offenses for impaired boating that kills or seriously injures someone cleared a House committee and is expected on the House floor on Thursday.
Pieces of the House budget also are expected to start rolling out on Thursday, with leaders projecting floor votes on the budget by the end of next week.
