Wednesday wrap: Guns OK, voting with ID not

Voter ID, gun proposals advance in busy legislative day.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Legislation requiring photo identification of voters and allowing people to carry concealed weapons in more places advance Wednesday in a busy legislative day.

The House approved its voter ID proposal, mostly along party lines, after weeks of gathering input from the public and experts from other states with similar requirements. The bill now heads to the Senate.

Meanwhile, a House committee passed legislation that would allow concealed weapons on college campuses and in bars and restaurants. A separate committee defeated an effort to repeal state subsidies to renewable energy firms, while a third committee debated proposed rules for people who are in the country illegally.
