RALEIGH, N.C. — The proposed House budget for 2017-18 won't be rolled out until next week, but Appropriations subcommittees will start to review various sections on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the Senate budget includes a provision that would benefit two judges with ties to Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger – two other judges also would benefit – by giving them credit for their time as administrative law judges when calculating their longevity pay.

In preparation for their budget work, House members met in a special session at the State Capitol on Wednesday to pass a resolution honoring the 242nd anniversary of the Mecklenburg Declaration, which is purported to be the first formal declaration of independence to England during the American Revolution.
