Wednesday Wrap: Another cram session

Among the bills the House passed in its second straight marathon session that had to include a dinner break were measures to impose regulations on large-scale dog breeders, to allow employers to sue people who seek jobs solely to take undercover videos and to give some counties extra time to replace their touch-screen voting machines. Meanwhile, a proposed constitutional amendment that would have candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run as a ticket failed to get enough votes in the House to pass.

Meanwhile, a House committee passed a bill that would extend the waiting period to get an abortion from 24 to 72 hours, but language that would have precluded state medical schools from teaching students how to perform an abortion was stripped out of the bill.

A second House committee passed a proposal that would prevent extra fines from being imposed on speeders in highway work zones if no workers were there at the time, while a third committee scotched a plan to scale back the state's 8-year-old requirements that utilities generate an increasing among of their energy from renewable sources.
