Wednesday will be sunny and warm, meteorologist Kat Campbell said, but the Triangle is at an elevated risk for severe weather on Friday.

Temperatures were near 50 degrees Wednesday morning and rise to 80 degrees as winds from the southwest bring in warm air.

“It’ll be a fast warmup throughout the day,” Campbell said.

Current Temperatures, DMA

Thursday could be the warmest day of 2019, with an expected high of 82 degrees. The beginning of April saw highs of 81 degrees, the current warmest temperature of 2019.

The U.S. Storm Prediction Center issued an enhanced threat for severe weather for the Triangle and eastward on Friday.

There’s a risk for risk for heavy rain, damaging winds and isolated tornados, Campbell said.

There could be a sprinkle overnight Thursday, but rain is expected to move in around noon on Friday.

That rain will pick up between 5 and 8 p.m.

High temperatures will be in the mid-70s on Friday.

Saturday will be cooler, at 66 degrees with a chance for showers.

Sunday will be calmer, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 70s.
