Wednesday Marks 19-Year Anniversary of Raleigh Twister

Nineteen years ago Wednesday, a tornado touched down in Raleigh, bringing death and destruction.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nineteen years ago Wednesday, a tornado touched down in north Raleigh, bringing death and destruction.

The tornado's path covered 83 miles from Raleigh to Northampton County. When the tornado ended, four people – two children and a couple – had died.

The tornado damaged more than 1,000 homes and left more than 500 people homeless. The estimated damage from the tornado totalled $75 million.
