Hanna about to make landfallAt 2 a.m., Hanna had maximum sustained winds near 70 mph and was moving north-northeast near 21 mph. The National Hurricane Center expects Hanna to make landfall in the next few hours near the North Carolina/South Carolina line.

Hanna's approach yields tornado watchesConditions are ripe for tornadoes accompanying the sweep of Tropical Storm Hanna across North Carolina, the National Weather Service has determined. The first tornado watches were issued just after 4:30 p.m. and extend north to south in the counties directly in the storm's expected cone of impact.
