RDU could see all-time record high

Posted July 27, 2011

— Hot temperatures returned to the Triangle Wednesday, and by Friday, the region could see the highest temperature ever recorded at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The predicted high for Friday is 104 degrees. RDU hit 105 degrees on July 23, 1952, and WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said the Triangle could easily tie that record Friday.

Before then, Wednesday saw a high of 99 degrees in Raleigh.

Triple-digit temperatures are expected Thursday, with a high of 100 degrees, and Saturday with a high of 102. Current Temperatures, DMA Temperature Tracker

"Everybody will be cooking," Maze said.

The first shot at relief from the heat will come Sunday. Scattered showers and storms will help temperatures to dip to around 93 degrees.

Ok, ya'll. My family moved to Raleigh in 1964. The day we moved in the temp was 105. 1964.

One day recently all our outdoor thermometers in Raleigh were reading 109 at 5pm.

I lived in Phoenix in the summer of '76. Daytime highs of 122 and nighttime lows of 85. Humidity of 35% and below. It felt toasty warm like in an oven, but not terribly uncomfortable. Moving back to NC felt like being wrapped in a wet blanket for a month until re-acclimation.

The heat is getting ridiculous. I can't wait for Fall.

It hit 105 on August 19th 1988 and was 104 the day before. That was the hottest temp I had seen until last week when it was 107 with a 126 heat index up here last week.

There's nothing better than a smokin', record breakin', ridiculous beyond belief heat wave in July here in good ole Bev country.
I mean if i didn't know any better I'd think wral/golo/censorship at its finest loves this garbage.

It's so hot that everyone is staying inside and posting on all the new's story that the poor monitors can't keep up. LOL

I've always been a huge fan of seeing records broken. If we can break the 105 mark I'm all for it and want to see it. Records are made to be broken ...... come winter time I will be rooting for some records to fall then. The best part about WRAL is Greg Fishel because he loves to keep everyone updated on any records we have a shot at breaking, Keep up the good work Greg !!
