RALEIGH, N.C. — Hot temperatures returned to the Triangle Wednesday, and by Friday, the region could see the highest temperature ever recorded at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The predicted high for Friday is 104 degrees. RDU hit 105 degrees on July 23, 1952, and WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said the Triangle could easily tie that record Friday.

Before then, Wednesday saw a high of 99 degrees in Raleigh. Triple-digit temperatures are expected Thursday, with a high of 100 degrees, and Saturday with a high of 102.

"Everybody will be cooking," Maze said.

The first shot at relief from the heat will come Sunday. Scattered showers and storms will help temperatures to dip to around 93 degrees.
