Cool, rainy day on tap in NC
After a stormy night and a rainy morning, North Carolina's weather will take a turn to the cool side Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedA cold front pushed rain, including some heavy downpours, across the state Wednesday morning. Rainfall was expected to total a quarter-inch on average, with up to a half-inch in places that get heavier showers.
The rain started to taper off in the Triangle in the late morning, although an occasional shower could linger after mid-day.
"The cool temperatures will be the thing that's impacting us later on this afternoon," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
Temperatures will be in the 50s around lunchtime and, depending on how much sunshine gets through the clouds in the afternoon, could rise into the mid 60s to about 70 degrees.
"Notice those 40s for overnight lows for the next three nights. It's really turning cooler on us," Gardner said.
Daily highs will stay in the low to mid 70s, until the weekend, when temperatures will return to the 80s.
