Brief taste of summer on its way to NC
After a night of heavy rain and storms, Sunday dawned foggy and damp, but a warming trend will begin later in the day.
Posted — UpdatedIn the mid to late afternoon, the skies will clear a bit, becoming partly sunny. And the mercury will also start to rise, so Sunday will see a high in the mid 70s.
On Monday, a stiff southwesterly wind will blow into the state, gusting as high as 30 mph.
"That warms us into the upper 80s, with partly sunny skies. ... It wouldn't be out of the question to see maybe one or two spots near 90 degrees," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said. "It'll also be more humid, so it will feel like a touch of summer out there."
The daily record for Monday was set at 90 degrees in 1978.
By the end of the day, a weakening cold front will make its way across the North Carolina. It will create a shot at scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight.
"We think that the showers and storms will be along a couple of narrow bands, a little bit scattered," Moss said.
On Tuesday, that front will drop temperatures to a more spring-like high in the low 70s.
"Then the rest of the week, it looks very comfortable, low to mid 70s for highs, with varying amounts of clouds," Moss said.
