RALEIGH, N.C. — The Triangle and surrounding areas could see snow three times during the next seven days, but don't go out and buy a snow shovel just yet.

A developing area of low pressure will track south of North Carolina late Wednesday into early Thursday morning, but it will be close enough to bring a light round of precipitation.

"It's going to primarily be a rain event, ending late tonight and early tomorrow morning mixed with some snowflakes," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

Another dusting of snow is possible late Thursday into Friday morning.

Both cases are expected to be light.

"This is really a non-event," Maze said.

WRAL meteorologists are also tracking another storm system that could impact the Triangle early next week. Early projections suggest the storm could be as significant as the one that dropped about a foot of snow across the state on Christmas.

"It's hard to tell because it is still seven days out," Maze warned.

This weekend will be dry, but cold, with highs around 40 degrees.
