Sledders enjoy 7 inches in Fayetteville
Snowfall started later in Fayetteville than in other areas of the state, but deep fluffy snow blanketed the city by daybreak Sunday, calling post-Christmas revelers out to play.
Posted — UpdatedRoad conditions were slushy Sunday afternoon, but that didn't stop dozens of children and adults alike from sledding at Rowan Park.
"This is amazing. It's better than Michigan," said northern native Brant Parker.
The snow was ideal for packing, causing some in the Cape Fear Valley to go without power for much of the day. Heavy snow collected on power lines, cutting off electricity for several thousand customers.
Progress Energy reported that nearly one thousand people are still without power in Cumberland County.
But Fayetteville residents swooshing down hills in their sleds didn't let slick roads and power outages dampen their spirits this holiday weekend.
"We had a blessed Christmas, and nice fun weather, so it's a good day," Daniel Billiott said.
Billiott's son, Emmett, was exhausted from all the winter fun.
"I just want to go home... I'm so tired," he said.
