Storms bring wind, rain to central N.C.

A cold front passing north of the state created conditions ripe for scattered storms and rain, particularly in central and northern counties.

Trees were reported down in several areas including Efland, Cleveland and Wilson.

The storms also dumped heavy rain, reaching rates of up to an inch per hour in some areas.

Sunday will be muggy and cloudy with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.

"More rain moves into the area Sunday afternoon. Wind damage will be an issue with the storms, as will frequent lightning and very heavy rain," WRAL meteorologist Kim Deaner said.

Warm temperatures will continue through the workweek.
