Cold front could break hot streak
North Carolinians sweltering through another day of heat and humidity can look forward to a respite early this week – after one more chance of showers and storms.
Posted — UpdatedSunday started sunny, and temperatures had risen into the mid 90s by late-afternoon.
"It's not unlike what we have around mid-summer on occasion around these parts," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
In the late afternoon, a cold front starting to come through, stirring up the chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Moss said there's a "very slight risk" of severe storms through early Monday. The storms could produce some large hail in spots or some strong, locally damaging downburst winds, Moss said.
The cold front and any storms it produces will scour away the heat and humidity by Monday morning.
"Things are going to turn around and get better as we kick into the week ahead," Moss said.
On Monday, a northwesterly breeze will give North Carolina more sunshine, less humidity and lower temperatures.
"We start the workweek off on a beautiful note with Monday and Tuesday seeing highs in the 90s," WRAL meteorologist Kim Deaner said.
