RALEIGH, N.C. — Mother's Day on Sunday will be bright with "plenty of sun" and much cooler with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

"I hope every mom has a wonderful day. The weather surely will be awesome," she said.

Saturday, however, won't be quite as nice. The day will be partly cloudy, windy and very warm with scattered showers and storms in the afternoon.

"Our next cold front moves through the region (Saturday), so we do expect a transition from very warm air to cooler air with its passage," Gardner said.

"We also see a little better chance of showers and storms with this front so more of us will see some rain. Some of the storms that we see could be on the strong side if not briefly severe," she added.

Friday will be mostly sunny, breezy and very warm with highs in the low 90s.
