'Awfully nice' weekend on the way

Spring-like weather is returning to North Carolina after days of unseasonably warm temperatures. "We've got cool, dry air that's moving in right now, and it looks gorgeous out there," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina bid good-bye to the rain and storms from a cold front and welcomed the cooler, dry air it brought Friday.

"We've got some big changes out there," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "Skies are clearing; we’ve got a good bit of sunshine. It will be much cooler than it has been the past few days."

By early morning, rain had moved off to the coast, leaving behind cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 50s. Breezy conditions will help clear out most of the clouds throughout the day. The humidity will also drop.

"It is awfully nice," Gardner said. "We're clearing out the pollen. I can't promise that it's gone, but that rain overnight certainly helps. We're clearing out the atmosphere in terms of the humidity.

"We've got cool, dry air that's moving in right now, and it looks gorgeous out there."

Temperatures will see a high in the mid 60s Friday, then dip down as low as the upper 30s overnight.

"We are expecting a pleasant weekend. It's not going to be as warm as it has been," Gardner said.

This weekend, the sun will come out and warm things up a bit – but the temperatures will stay seasonably warm. Saturday will see a high in the upper 60s, and Sunday in the mid 70s.
