Carolina Hurricanes' singer injured in sledding accident

Among those injured was the 11-year-old girl who gets Carolina Hurricanes' fans going before games.

Katherine Fritsch is a fifth grader at St. Timothy's School, 4523 Six Forks Road in Raleigh. But, on the ice, in front of thousands of screaming fans, the spotlight shines on Katherine as she sings the national anthem.

Saturday morning, however, while playing in the snow, Katherine was injured in a sledding accident.

“She was taking a hill with her cousin. I think snow got in her eyes, and a car was coming, and they veered off and kind of ran into a fire hydrant,” Tom Fritsch, Katherine’s father, said.

A bad bump on the head made her feel woozy, so Kathryn was taken to Rex Healthcare to be checked out.

Kathryn's father was supervising from the top of the hill where the kids were sledding, but no one was at the bottom of the hill where the accident happened.

“Make sure you have adults at the top and bottom of the hill to manage what's going on,” Fritsch said.

Kathryn is expected to be OK but wasn’t able to sing Saturday at the Carolina Hurricanes' game.

“We had to call and tell them she wouldn't make it tonight,” Fritsch said.
