Storms battered the central part of the state overnight, before pushing further to the east after daybreak.
The state Department of Transportation assessed the damage to roadways and bridges and worked to open roads blocked by flooding. About half the counties in the state were still under weather-related warnings by late afternoon.
Flooding was reported in Durham on Hillandale Road at Carver Street and in Raleigh on Hillsborough Street at Gardner Street. A car was stuck in waters on the ramp from Dawson Street to westbound Western Boulevard.
In counties in the western part of the state, culverts were washed out and some secondary roads were blocked by runoff or debris, the DOT said. Mudslides were reported in Forsyth, Haywood and Ashe counties.
