Spotty showers mark evening forecast

Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — An upper level disturbance passing across the state brought spotty showers to the Triangle Wednesday afternoon.
The mercury reached the mid-80s under cloudy skies and humidity kept things sticky. "It is a typical summertime pattern," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.
If storms hit, they are not expected to reach the severity seen Tuesday, when high winds downed power lines and trees in Cary, Carthage and Seminole.
The showers should die down gradually once the sun sets, but don't look for any cooler temperatures, Maze said.
"It's going to be hotter tomorrow. We'll be back in the 90s with another chance for a shower or storm," he added.
Thursday night will be warm, with temperatures staying in the mid-70s.
"We’ve got a chance for thunderstorms every afternoon this week," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "If you can hear the thunder, you are in danger of being struck by lightning. It can strike 10 miles away from the cloud that forms it."
