Tuesday to bring more sun, warmer temps

Posted July 13, 2009

— Severe weather passed through the Triangle Monday morning and could hit areas south and east of Raleigh later in the afternoon, said WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport saw .5 inches of rain Monday morning, while some other areas near the Triangle saw as much as 2 inches, Gardner said.

Tuesday will be partly to mostly sunny, a little warmer and noticeably less humid. Highs will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

There is a slight chance of a thundershower, mainly toward the southern coastal plain.

Tuesday night will be mostly clear and nice with lows in the 60s.

"We've been lucky to not have a long streak of hot weather (yet this summer)," Gardner said.

Got a better idea....Look out the window, and that will tell you what it's doing outside. If you live in NC, and are from NC, you know to expect a thunderstorm any day during the summer. Most of us are prepared for it.

We will see how much instability we can hold on to for the afternoon round of storms. The frontal position is important as well. It seems further west towards the triad should remain dry with increasing chances south and east. It will be interesting to watch the SPC mesoanalysis throughout the day. The morning convection certainly stabalized things in the lower atmosphere for the time being. That could be a key inhibitor to severe potential.

"I wonder if I can get Kim Deaner to come wipe the water off my seats "
    Nope, they aren't responsible, remember!

What a fantastic rainfall! My plants and grass will be very happy.

A forecast is just that, a forecast. The weather doesn't always listen to the weather folks, though. All you had to do was turn on your TV or check your computer to see it was going to rain this morning. Then maybe you wouldn't be blaming the weather folks for your choice to leave your windows down.

Thankful for that beautiful rain! :)

I left my windows cracked in my car this morning, too. I wonder if I can get Kim Deaner to come wipe the water off my seats since she didn't say anything about the rain this morning on last night's news.

Steady rain in East Raleigh. Very little 'boom boom', 9:28 am.

  • Space Mountain Jul 13, 2009

I didn't watch the news this morning, but I don't recall Kim Deaner saying anything on the 10:00 news last night about us getting rain this morning. She did say we had a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, but nothing about the morning.
