Friday kicks off 'raincoat weekend'

— Friday's weather was serving up a two-course meal.

After an appetizer of morning showers, afternoon showers were acting as the main entree, with high humidity and gusty winds on the side.

An upper-level disturbance rolled across central North Carolina in the mid-afternoon. It produced a band of spotty, heavy rain that stretched from the South Carolina border to the Virginia border and was moving slowly east.

The possibility of isolated to widespread thunderstorms exists through the evening. The chance of severe weather, though, is low.

"It probably wouldn't hurt to grab the umbrella" for the Friday evening commute and hang onto it for the weekend, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

"It looks like a raincoat kind of weekend, especially on Saturday," she said. "I don’t think that I would be planning much on Saturday afternoon, because that will be our best chance of rain most likely."

Temperatures in the low 80s, cloudy skies, high humidity and a good chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms will repeat Saturday.

"On Sunday, we may get a little bit of break, maybe just a few spotty showers and thunderstorms," Gardner said. "If you've got outdoor plans, Sunday may look a little better."

Skywatch_NC - weather.com has this amazing feature that you can enter a zipcode and it gives you the Local weather for that particular location. technology, got to love it.

BigBird, yes, I realize that. That's why I rely anymore on my local city's forecasters than the weather.com Atlanta-based forecasting service.

I think the editing of this article leaves more to be desired than the forecast.

"+100 - still its a job, and i would think the thought of any job requires skill, talent, and quality to do the job right. i was referring to being a meteorologist doesnt actually require those traits"

To actually be a "meteorologist", you have to get a degree, and it's no cake-walk. Of course, you don't need any education to be a "weather-person", but meteorology is a profession that does require education.

what do you mean "what gives?" do you honestly care that much about 5 degrees? could you predict it closer? perhaps you should pick the middle, between 87 and 83. grab a calculator. they should change the weather to "really hot, hot, warm, cool, cold, really cold" and be done with temparatures. clearly it upsets folks

"i mean, i wish i became a weather meteorologist... its like the only job that you can constantly screw up and still get a paycheck."

Its hilarious when people make comments such as this. There's only so-much a meteoroligist can do, and there are so many factors that can change current predictions. It's not an exact science.
