RALEIGH, N.C. — After a high temperature in the low 80s on Friday, a cold front that is moving into the state will transform the weather picture for the weekend.

Friday was one of the warmest days of the year, but high temperatures in the Triangle will be “a good 20 to 30 degrees” lower on Saturday, WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

“It’s going to be like we moved to New York or something for the weekend,” she said.  “Enjoy the warm weather while it’s here.”

The forecast called for clouds to roll in after dark, and spotty showers were expected Friday night. The weekend weather will be significantly cloudier and cooler. Highs Saturday could top out in the 50s. Sunday's temperatures will linger in the upper 40s for a true chill.

While clouds will dominate, the air is dry for the coming days and into the workweek.

“We don’t really have any soaking rain in the forecast for the next week or so,” Gardner said. “It’s not looking good for us drought-wise.”
