RALEIGH, N.C. — Monday's unseasonably warm temperatures broke two records, and more could fall Tuesday and Wednesday.
First, the high of 81 degrees Monday set a new record for Dec. 10 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The old record high for the date was 76 degrees, set in 1972.

Eight-one degrees also is the warmest December day on record at the airport.

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said a trough of low pressure will dip toward the North Carolina-South Carolina line on Tuesday, but will fizzle out. Another trough of low pressure will dip southward on Wednesday, but it is not expected to come into North Carolina.

Temperatures should drop on Thursday, with highs near 70, then fall further to the low 60s on Friday and around 45 on Saturday.

With the colder temperatures at the end of the week comes a decent chance for rain on Sunday, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.
